First Camp, Scandinavia’s largest chain of campsites and resorts, continues its expansion and strengthens its presence in Värmland, Sweden, through the acquisition of the three popular destinations in the Sommarvik Group – Sommarvik (Årjäng Camping & Stugor), Haganäset (Charlottenberg Camping & Stugor) and Herrgårdsliv (Kristinehamns Herrgårdscamping & Stugor).
With these acquisitions, First Camp will reach a total of 78 destinations in five countries. The handover is scheduled for 1 October 2025.
Sommarvik in Årjäng, located close to the E18, is a five-star destination with many returning guests from both Sweden and Norway. With their idyllic locations by lakes and forests, as well as a wide range of cabins and family-friendly activities, all three campsites are well-known for their high quality.
“We are both pleased and humbled that the Fransson family has chosen to entrust us with their life’s work. This is a well-run business with excellent and much-loved destinations and many loyal guests, and we will take great care of it all. Thanks to this acquisition, guests at the Sommarvik Group’s destinations will also be able to enjoy all the benefits of being part of First Camp, not least the opportunity to earn points and stay for free through our popular loyalty program, First Camp Club,” says Johan Söör, CEO of First Camp.
“Sommarvik in Årjäng and Haganäset in particular have a large number of seasonal guests, and through our local teams on site we aim to look after them just as well as before. Nothing will change in the terms for seasonal guests, and we look forward to getting to know them better. We know how important they are for the community on site,” Johan continues.
Christer Fransson, CEO and founder of the Sommarvik Group, comments:
“Our journey as campsite hosts began with Sommarvik in 1979/80 in Årjäng, with 5,000 guest nights. We and Sommarvik AB were part of creating the First Camp brand in 2003. Haganäset was acquired that same year, and we began construction of Herrgårdscampingen in 2010. The Sommarvik Group now has over 250,000 guest nights in Värmland, and is in constant growth and development. With First Camp as a financially strong operator, it feels as though our circle has come full. We wish them, all staff, and partners the best of luck in their continued hosting.”
The Sommarvik Group and its partners employ around 100 seasonal staff.
With these acquisitions, First Camp strengthens its presence in Värmland and around Lake Vänern, and will have a total of 10 destinations in the area.
